Being stuck at home for Valentine’s Day isn’t ideal, BUT by no means does that mean it can’t be special. Here at Plateaway, or should we say DATEaway, we’re giving you the best ideas for celebrating Valentine’s Day in lockdown at home.
So if you’re lucky enough (or unlucky enough – depending how lockdown’s going for your love life) to be living with your partner, then it’s important to make this night DIFFERENT to the other 300 nights you’ve already spent in lockdown together. Yes this means NOT scrolling on your phones whilst watching Netflix AGAIN! Tonight it’s time to make a real effort and spend ‘quality’ time together. And if you’re not living together, this STILL applies to you – just because you can’t spend the day physically with your partner, it doesn’t mean that romance is dead!
Get Dressed Up
Now we know you might not be able to remember what getting ‘dressed up’ means, let alone how to even go about it, so let us break it down for you. Makeup on – check, nice outfit you bought online out of boredom and still haven’t worn – check, hair washed for the first time this week – check!! Getting dressed up for the occasion will not only make you feel a million times better mentally and emotionally, but COME ON, you still want the same date for next Valentine’s Day right?!
Plan a Romantic Lockdown Meal
Our next suggestion for you lovebirds is, of course, to order a restaurant meal kit! This is not only FUN to cook together but also delicious and means you don’t need to go food shopping, you don’t need to stress about planning a whole meal AND it’s something different to do!
If you don’t live with your partner, both order the same (or different) kits and cook and eat together over Facetime or Zoom! And if you’re single, either treat yourself tonight or do this with your gals, your pals, your family, your Tinder date – the choice is yours! All we know is that Valentine’s Day is all about appreciating the people you love!
In terms of what kit to order – obviously the choice is down to your preference. If you’re looking for something quick and easy – definitely go for the burgers, pizza or pasta kits. If you’re looking to cook something a little different or something you don’t normally make – go for the Asian, Mexican or any of the Mediterranean kits! And last but not least, if you’re looking for a luxury meal consisting of a number of courses, then we definitely recommend ordering from any of our premium kits!
Valentine’s Day is the PERFECT excuse to indulge with zero guilt, so we also suggest ordering some special dessert kits and some cocktails! Whether you fancy making cookies, doughnuts, cupcakes, babkas – there is something tempting for everyone!
1. Plan a home spa evening
This is actually the perfect activity if you’re spending Valentine’s Day with your partner, your friends or alone – SELF LOVE for the win! Pjs on, face masks on, hair masks on, bubble bath, nails painted – you get the idea!
2. Write a love letter
Write a love letter to your partner, your friends, or yourself and read it out loud! For those who love being cheesy, this will be EASY for you and is also a chance for you to tell your loved one how much you appreciate them and hear why they appreciate you. For those of you who are cringing at the thought of writing a love letter, it’s just an idea – we aren’t forcing you to do it!
3. Virtual double dates
If you are sick of your partner at this point, we get it! So why not set up a virtual double date, or triple date, with your couple friends! It will be a fun way to switch up your time together and shake up your regular date night! Plus we are all seriously missing socialising these days! Play games like Mr & Mrs, quiz night – whatever takes your fancy!
4. Movie night
By the end of your meal you are probably too full or drunk or, most likely, BOTH! So realistically all you will both want to do is watch a movie and ignore all our other suggestions! No judgement from our side – however, we do suggest at least watching a cute romantic movie!
