How it all began…
Back in March 2020, the outbreak of COVID-19 took its toll when the country was told that we must stay at home and certain businesses were forced to close. Only two weeks into lockdown and we were all already missing life’s simple pleasures, like going out to a restaurant for a delicious meal. We all tried to make home-cooked meals, and be “adventurous” in the kitchen, but with the limited groceries available, the never-ending queues outside supermarkets, and the lack of motivation to cook up a storm every night, it didn’t go quite to plan.
Then lockdown took a turn as all the restaurants began to create their DIY restaurant meal kits, featuring all the ingredients to create their signature restaurant dishes. So not only could we satisfy our cravings, we also could have fun in the kitchen, and support the hospitality industry, said to be one of the worst affected as a result of the coronavirus outbreak.
Plateaway was born when one of the founders decided that there needed to be a centralised platform where all these kits were available. With our co-founder, Harry, being a UX designer and a MASSIVE foodie, the website was up and running in no time, making the user journey simple for our customers. The platform allows you to order kits from separate restaurants in one checkout, and also provides 1 minute long video guides on each kit, showing you how to make and plate these delicious dishes.
Plateaway launched with 6 restaurant partners back in July 2020 and since then continues to grow week-by week. With a variety of cuisines to choose from including vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options for specialty diets, there’s something for everyone.
